Left 4 Dead will be released on September 30, 2008, that is if you believe Amazon which has the Xbox 360 version available to pre-order. I often ponder the sense of giving us fans a date to expect the release when these things are often put back time and time again.

Gametrailers.com had an interesting piece on future Valve games. GTTV features an interview with Mike Booth and also Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. Gabe does not rule out the possibility of a Playstation3 version of Left 4 Dead and says that it is due to the amount of development on Counter-strike on the Xbox that Microsoft’s console will get Left 4 Dead first (alongside the PC, of course).

Important and interesting news for PS3 owners though. Left 4 Dead might still be coming your way.

Later in the episode Mike Booth talks about the different types of Zombies you’ll face and gives us a quick glimpse of all the Boss Infected, including the Witch, in action.

Recently a rumour circulated that Left 4 Dead would be hitting the PS3 as well as the Xbox 360 in console-world. We have learned that this is not the case.

OXM haveĀ  confirmed during their recent visit to Valve/TRS that the game will initially be released on PC and then later ported to Xbox 360 with no version being made available to PS3 or Nintendo’s Wii. A coup for Microsoft?

Information from the magazine suggested that the 360 code was too raw to be playtested, but that OXM did get to play the PC version of the Hospital and Cornfield maps.

Sorry PS3 owners, but you lucked out this time.

Certain Affinity have confirmed that they are working on the Vbox360 version of Left 4 Dead on their company blog. Formed by ex-Bungie employee Max Hoberman in 2006, the company includes ex-staff members of Microsoft and Electronic Arts, amongst others.

Certain Affinity are probably best known for the two multiplayer maps they released for Halo 2 called Desolation and Tombstone (remakes of levels in the original Halo).

This is what Certain Affinity had to say about the news:

The latest issue of OXM blew the cover on our involvement with Valve and Left 4 Dead. We can now confirm that yes, indeed, we are working on this most awesome game and are responsible for the Xbox 360 version.

Good luck guys. Here’s hoping that Left 4 Dead reaches Halo levels of awesomeness.
